Hockey Challenge – Ronald McDonald House Charities
To learn a bit more about the event itself, head over to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington (RMHC).
This past Saturday, February 27th, the 12th annual Hockey Challenge was held at the Showare Center in Kent, WA.
John Barr, one of the original members of 529, played in the fundraiser game, E&D vs. Mystery Team. For those not in the know, when John’s not riding a bike, he’s an avid hockey fan and player (avid like Don Cherry but with less hair and a hoodie). The man regularly plays 3 or 4 nights a week, is constantly watching the NHL, has a small collection of pro jerseys, and, well, if you didn’t know he was from Oakland, you’d swear he were Canadian.
The most important thing to call out here though is the 529 effort that John puts into making this event amazing. Sure he plays, but John also coordinates two separate teams, helping reserve ice time for practices, designing team uniforms, and most importantly, fundraising! For 2010, John helped raise over $25K.
Celebrity Game highlight… John assisted on the game winning goal in sudden death overtime! The celebrity game is held after the Seattle Thunderbirds game each year and those that help the charity most get to participate with a few of the celebs.
