Budu Racing @ Black Diamond

Sunday, March 7

This past Sunday, a small group of 529 members headed out to Black Diamond for some early season ‘racing’.  If you’ve not been down to Black Diamond, you’re missing out.  There’s some great trails and these days, the area caters to all disciplines.  Learn about the newest edition, the Summit Ridge Freeride Park.

Back to the race… the small group of 529 members consisted of Sergei ‘Baby Face’ Shevlyagin, James ‘Bacchus’ Boldman, Alex ‘Old Spice’ Mallet, and Nate ‘Red Door’ Marsh.  Not sure what the deal is, but everyone on the team ends up with a nickname.  It’s inevitable.  Most of the time, there’s a story behind it, but sometimes, it’s a bit random.  Regardless, if you run into someone on a yellow Santa Cruz mountain bike in the Seattle area, be sure to ask about their nickname.

Rather than ramble on about the race, check out Alex Mallet and Nate Marsh’s first hand experiences.

  • Nate Marsh went in looking for a training ride but his heart rate chart doesn’t support that goal.  172 BPM average… what!?!
  • Alex Mallet went in wanting to dominate his class [ed. editor is exaggerating] and ended up racing sport instead of beginner.  Oh yeah, he also drove to/from the race twice!?!

Results:
5th Place – Sergei Shevlyagin (19-29 Sport)
11th Place – Nate Marsh (30-39 Sport)
15th Place – Alex Mallet (30-39 Sport)
7th Place – James Boldman (30-39 Beginner)
