First Race of 2010
Raman on his new Blur XC
For a variety of reasons this was my first race of the season. I won’t rehash how amazing it was since we had it coincide with the season opening BBQ at our place, but we had I think it was 19 racers show up and ride for our team. Incredible.
First I want to give major Kudos to the BuDu team, this was one of the most professionally run events I’ve ever had the pleasure to be a part of. They ran it on time, the course was well marked, they rapidly made changes when needed. I also want to thank them for running the un-advertised u-12 class, and allowing Audrey to get out and ride with them.
Before I get to my race, I also want to comment on that. Audrey decided about 20 minutes before the start that she would like to race. So there was a scramble to get her on her bike, and dressed, and get Tina’s bike prepped and ready since Audrey’s start was at 9:30 and the sport start not until noon. We made it and despite an endo in the first 2 minutes of racing, Audrey continued on and finished her lap, taking first, and having a blast. This was definitely one of my proudest moments as a dad!
Now to my race. Let’s just say I have a lot of work to do. I checked my 2 lap split vs. the finish results for beginner and I would’ve mid pack in beginner. Instead I’m racing this year in 40+ for the first time, and sport for the first time, and I got my but handed to me. I had fun, but I was rather glad of being lapped my the sport first class racer (not the second though!) as it meant I got stopped at three laps. This is a building and training year for me, I’m working with a coach from CycleU to train smarter, and hoping to develop more power, and better endurance, so this is my base line. I’m going to try and improve each race though!
That said the race was a blast, I loved the course, the racers were awesome, none of this BS of being a pain to pass when you’re clearly faster either, really quality people.
Having pretty much all of 529 their along with some friends was also amazing too, it was great to hang with everyone, before during and after the race. I’m hoping to do more of that this year!
Thinking back to the first few rides we did about 3-4 years ago, it’s pretty awesome how far you’re riding has come. Continue putting in the road miles and I get the feeling your building year will result in amazing progress!
