2010 Sea Otter Classic

The atomsphere… if you haven’t been to ‘the otter’ and you ride a bicycle for fitness, recreation, or racing, you need to make the trip at some point in your life.  You don’t have to be a hardcore rider, you just have to have a passion for bikes.  Check it out for a day or two, then be sure to check out the local area whether that be Monterey, Carmel, Santa Cruz or maybe a bit more north to San Francisco.  It’s a worthy long weekend away from the 9-to-5 grind.  The energy of the place, all in the name of riding bikes, is great.  Doesn’t matter if it’s road or mtb, commuters or racing.  People are stoked to ride and it’s tough for that energy not to rub off on you.  It’ll make you want to ride more and we’re big fans of people riding more!

The 529 riders… for the second year in a row, the 529 contingent consisted of the Darrell Jamieson, Chase Jamieson, and Clinton Fowler.  James Boldman also made the trek down for his first otter experience.  Based on his happy dog leg after riding the dual slalom course, we’re pretty sure he’ll be attending future Otters.

The racing… it’s the same ol’ Sea Otter.  The dual slalom course is one of the best all season and the downhill course can be ridden on a small bike.  The road races are run on the Laguna Seca Raceway, the cross country race is long with deep, stacked fields, and the Super D is run on a fire road.

529 results… major congrats to Darrell Jamieson!  Darrell took home two 2nd place finishes (Dual and Downhill) in Cat 1 40-49.  It’s quite a feat to sit atop the podium at Sea Otter and Darrell did so twice.  Chase Jamieson took home 8th place in his first race in Junior 11-12 years old.  Clinton Fowler took home 4th in dual and 8th in downhill in Cat 1 30-34.  James Boldman took 18th in DH and missed qualifying for DS after crashing.  Welcome to Sea Otter James!

The antics… friends of 529, Jon Wilson and Casey Coffman, camped with us this year.  On Saturday night, their good friend Eddie came down to hang-out at the campfire.  We won’t publish Eddie’s last name for confidentiality reasons.  Eddie’s race was on Saturday and therefore, he was free to party a bit afterward.  By the time he arrived at the 529 campfire around 9 p.m., let’s say that Eddie was a few sheets to the wind (to say the least).  To fully appreciate what happened next, take a look through the pictures.  Eddie, I still love you!
