ProGRT Round #1
The Scene… Dryhill, Port Angeles, WA. It’s called Dryhill because it’s in the Olympic shadow. Don’t be confused though, it gets wet, just not nearly as wet as places not to far from this location. Heck, within an hour there’s full-on rain forests! As always, the Olympic Dirt Society, the promoters for the NW Cup, prepared killer courses for racing and the conditions were mostly tacky with a bit of slime here and there. Pretty typical for this time of the year.
The 529 riders… Eric Loney, Al Hansen, Nate Marsh, Darrell Jamieson, Kole Wetherell, Raman Sarin, Tina Sarin, and Christian Hagel-Sorensen all made it out for the race. For most of the team, they’ve all been here many a time. However, for Christian, it was his first time out here and it was also his first downhill race, and unfortunately, the man hit the ground many a time. Rumor has it that he’s on the mend and looking to regroup with a lesson or two. Keep it rubber side down folks!
The results… how ’bout Nate Marsh taking first in Cat 1 30-39. The man has ridden his Santa Cruz V10 about 5 times since the end of last season and he goes out and wins his first race of the season. The man is back! Not too mention that Eric Loney was 6th amongst PNW Pro riders and Kole Wetherell was 4th amongst the PNW Junior Ex riders. Overall, the 529 presence was felt on 5 podiums, including 3 of the highly competitive Cat 1 classes. Indeed, a successful weekend of racing.
