Is 529 Protect insurance?
No. 529 Protect is a limited warranty and service program — not an insurance product and not a part of any property or liability insurance policy.
What kind of protection is this?
529 Protect is a membership that includes theft deterrence (the 529 Shield decal), automated marketplace scanning via Detective, community alerts to our network, and law enforcement coordination. If your bicycle is not recovered within 30 days, you may be eligible for a replacement up to $3,000, subject to our Protect terms and conditions.
What happens when my bike is stolen?
Report it through your 529 account. Automated scanning begins across Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, eBay, OfferUp, Kijiji, and Pinkbike, and your bike's details are flagged across our law enforcement network. You'll need to file a police report within 10 days. If your bike isn't recovered within the 30-day recovery period, and all conditions are met, you may be eligible for up to $3,000 toward a replacement bike.
What does the bike warranty benefit include?
The 529 Protect bike recovery warranty replaces your stolen bike up to the value of $3,000 per 529 Protect membership if it is not found after an eligible theft claim.
Which bikes qualify?
Most standard bicycles and eligible e-bikes registered in 529 Garage with complete details — serial number, photos, and documentation showing ownership (e.g. a receipt). Second-hand bikes qualify if registered within 90 days of purchase.
Are e-bikes eligible?
Yes, provided the e-bike complies with U.S. federal and applicable state legislation (for example, Class 1/2/3 definitions, power and speed limits). Bikes that require registration/licensing as mopeds or motor vehicles under state law may not be eligible.
Can I register a second-hand bike?
Yes, as long as you register the bike on 529 Protect within 90 days of purchase.
What documentation is required for a claim?
A complete 529 registration (serial number and photos), documentation showing ownership (e.g. a purchase receipt), an up-to-date membership, and a police report filed within 10 days of theft. You must also provide a photo of the bike with the 529 Shield attached. Locking requirements and additional conditions apply — see our full Protect terms and conditions for details.
Does 529 Protect include detection and recovery tools?
Yes. Protect includes advanced detection and recovery tools — community alerts, marketplace monitoring, and a verified badge.
What if a thief removes the 529 Shield?
A thief's attempt to remove the Shield does not remove your bike's registration — your digital footprint is permanent. That said, you are required to upload a photo of the Shield on your registered bike. If you don't receive your Shield within 14 days of activating your subscription, contact us.
Where is 529 Protect available?
529 Protect is available in the United States, except Washington State. Detective scanning is available in both the US and Canada.
Can I cancel?
You can cancel your membership at any time. Monthly plans stop at the end of your billing period. Annual plans are billed once per year. No refunds are issued for fees already paid. No contracts, no lock-in.
