What’s a Shield and how do I get one?
A shield is an optional, tamper-resistant/weather-resistant* decal that has a unique, seven character ID code which adds an extra identifier and layer of protection for your bike. The shield sends a warning to bike thieves to back off because there will be a whole community of people who get notified if it ever goes missing.
In the event of a theft and law enforcement or an unknowing buyer finds a shield on your bike, they’ll be able to look your bike up on the 529 Garage and quickly get your bike back to you.
Shields are available for purchase through some participating partner agencies and local bike shops.

Tamper-resistant means that once your shield is placed, it is very difficult not only to remove, but difficult to remove without leaving obvious signs of tampering. Weather-resistant means that the shield will stand up to the wear and tear of environmental elements.
Shield Placement
Where you place your shield is up to you, but we recommend placing the shields on the seat tube, just below the top tube. That way, it's visible to act as a deterrent.
The back of the seat tube works well too.
Shield Application
To help make it straight, try placing a strip of masking tape around the seat tube so that you have a clear straight edge to align the top of the shield with. It should make placement much simpler.
Once you've applied the shield, it's not moveable, so do be sure to know exactly where you want it and make sure the area is prepared.
Handling the Shield
When you are ready to place, peel the shield off from the one of the top corners. It should pull up fairly easily once you get it started.
Oops!
If you do accidentally apply your shield incorrectly or have any issues with your shield,
please let us know
and we will void the shield number and send you a new one.
